Come taste the DR in a night of food and dancing in support of the Light a Candle Foundation in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
In January 2020, C3 Boston will travel to the Dominican Republic to work with the Light a Candle Foundation in La Romana, which provides medical care and education programs to Haitian migrant workers and their families of that area, regardless of their ability to pay for care. Our team will be traveling to La Romana with two purposes: first, to host mobile medical clinics in rural sugar cane villages; and second, to provide education programs which will include child health promotion, breastfeeding and maternal health education, hypertension prevention and youth programming.
In the medical clinics, our goal is to deliver culturally sensitive, sustainable care. We will travel with a team of health providers as well as partner with practitioners on ground to provide primary care health screenings and a dental clinic each day. For many communities in which we will be working, this will be the only day they will have access to health care all year. While the medical clinics aim to treat current illnesses and injuries, the education programs are designed to prevent them. Alongside the clinics, we will run a minimum of four education stations every day for community members to attend and access resources.
